 “Speak Up”

Children of migrants, Iraqi and Sudanese refugees tell their stories

When: Thursday September 10th

Location: Zico House, 174 Spears - Sanayeh

Time: 6-11p.m.

Free Entrance

This event aims at exposing the Lebanese and international audience to the cultural diversity of Lebanon.  During the night we will host a film produced by students of Insan School during a workshop of the project "Multimedia Virtual Space for Human Rights", along with live music, African and Asian cuisine and a photo exhibition.

Children of migrant workers and refugees are an invisible population in Lebanon, and are often denied basic human rights, such as access to education. On a daily basis they face marginalization and racism within the Lebanese society because of their parents’ social status.

Insan School has been working since four years in the Beirut suburb of Sin el Fil with the goal of assisting these children by providing a center where they can make up for gaps in their education and eventually accepted into Lebanese schools. Nine different nationalities are represented at the Insan School and in 2007 they were successful in enrolling twelve students into Lebanese schools.

Taste Culture events are aimed at promoting dialogue on racism, gender, labour and human rights as a mean of eliminating stereotypes and prejudice. We are able to taste culture not only through the sharing of foods but also via the arts, music and dialogue.

This event, sponsored by Zico House, is part of the project "Multimedia Virtual Space for Human Rights" financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by COSV, Permanent Peace Movement (PPM), KAFA and the Lebanese Center for Human Rights (CLDH).

Come and enjoy a taste of kulcha!
