1- How long have you been blogging?

I’ve always wanted to blog but felt technologically challenged, I finally got over it in December and started my blog.

May 2009

2- How many hours per day do you dedicate to the blog?

Too many! I have a full-time job and have mastered the art of alt-tab. (minimize screen) Around 3 hours a day, sometimes more.

2 to 3 hours

3- Has it been worth it so far?

It’s one of the most rewarding experiences, to have people visit my blog because their being entertained!

Absolutely!

4- How many page views does your blog get daily?

On Average 150-300, hits daily.  It fluctuates on weekends.

Depends on the popularity of the stories I post on a specific day and if they gets re-tweeted or reposted on FB. Could be anywhere between 1500 and 4000.

5- How many blogs do you have or write for currently?

Just Mine!

One. And I barely can keep up with it.

I do write occasionally for other publications, mainly print.

6- How many hours do you dedicate to them every day?

--

2 to 3 hours, unless I’m writing a story that involves research or heavy graphics, then it can go up to 5 hours.

7- Do you think one needs to post daily to be successful?

Most definitely. I’m addicted to a couple of blogs and sites which I log-onto daily, when they don’t post or just don’t post enough I get disappointed. Almost abandoned ;)

It’s all about setting expectations and consistency. If the expectation is that visitors will find a new post everyday, than I have to deliver on that.

8- Is there an ideal posting frequency?

Early morning is when people tend to check their regular sites, and late afternoon, when people finished what they have to do and just wanna relax and surf the web.

It really depends on the nature of the blog. HummusNation is a “NEWS” site, so the expectation is for it to have at least one new story every day.

9- What is the biggest blogging mistake you did?

It’s too soon to tell!

I’ve done many mistakes before I found my groove, like missing out on very important events that could have made great stories on Hummus.

10- What is the biggest mistake you see in blog designs?

Too much going on and not enough.  Keeping things simple is a good thing, but too simple can be borderline boring. User-friendliness is key. Personally I love visuals I spend just as much time looking for them as I do writing posts!

1-No follow tools

2-No clear information hierarchy

3-No blog search tools

4-Counter intuitive page navigation

11- Twitter is a distraction or a good promotional tool?

Both! Twitter can turn into a serious addiction, I’m sure they have underground twitter anonymous meetings going around somewhere in the city.

HummusNation would not have been as popular without Twitter. So it is in my opinion an excellent promotional tool. Some users though, ones with verbal diarrhea can make it occasionally completely lame.

12- Do you think that any professional should have a blog?

Can. Yes. Anyone can. But you gotta have something to say and be consistent. I wanted to change the dating rules in Beirut and that was my motive!

No. I meet a lot of professionals who have nothing to say, yet they talk a lot, so please spare us.

13- If you could give an advice for a novice blogger, what would it be?

Don’t force it, if your just not feeling a post, then you probably shouldn’t be posting it.

Have a very clear idea of what you’re saying and who you’re saying it to, i.e. your audience. You don’t want to be barking down the wrong tree.

14- What is the secret of your success, expressed in one word?

Change

I think that HummusNation may be popular, but not successful yet. So we’ll talk again when it gets there.

15- If you could write a post on any blog in the world, which one would you pick?

Perezhilton.com

I am not very familiar with what’s out there, but I would like to work with a few artists that I admire, including http://mayazankoul.com/ and http://klekeesh.blogspot.com/
