Rita Kamel

1- How long have you been blogging?

3 years and a half. Since July 2006

I have been blogging since August 2006. The war against Lebanon had me reacting.

2- How many hours per day do you dedicate to the blog?

It depends on inspiration! Sometimes not even one minute, sometimes 2 to 3 hours.

It really depends on the topic, the inspiration of the moment and my mood. It could vary from 5 minutes to 2 hours!

3- Has it been worth it so far?

Definitely! I love it. It gives you a sense of control. When you’re paranoid you lock it, when you’re inspired you inspire, when you’re mad you vent, when you want to raise awareness or send a message to the world: you have a tool to do so! And this is a great digital gift.

Absolutely yes! I love the interaction with the readers it creates.

4- How many page views does your blog get daily?

1-     blog.independence05.com gets between 100 and 300

2-     incoglilo.blogspot.com between 20 to 70

3-     lebanonaggregator.com same as the first.

Not that I’m trying to justify the 100 page views my blog gets daily but I have recently migrated from a different platform and the blog wasn’t listed anywhere.

5- How many blogs do you have or write for currently?

3 blogs

·        blog.independence05.com

·        incoglilo.blogspot.com

·        lebanonaggregator.com

I used to have 2. I recently decided to merge them and give the reader the choice to scroll posts by categories/tags.

I also write for others upon invitation to participate on a specific topic.

6- How many hours do you dedicate to them every day?

Depends on inspiration as mentioned in Q#2, and also on the type of post am writing. Sometimes I need to backup things I say with sources & photos, read more about the subject or know more about the topic,  and sometimes it’s simply a sentence or a photo or shedding a light on an event to promote it

As much as needed for the blogs I’m invited to ( I spent around 1 hour for yours…) and go back to answer to question 2 for mine.

7- Do you think one needs to post daily to be successful?

It depends on what the blogger tends to get back from his blog, and how he/she sees success.

For example, if it’s a news blog, then definitely a person needs to post daily. But in general, if it’s a personal blog or a social one, the blogger doesn’t have to blog every day, however he/she should keep some sort of commitment because when people sense that the blogger abandoned the blog from some time, they might not be attached to it anymore.

I do not think that posting daily and success are correlated. It’s more about the quality of the post, the intent of it. The important thing here is to attract the readers enough to see them visit your blog another time and check what’s new on it which would make a successful blog.

8- Is there an ideal posting frequency?

Again it depends, for example I think in my case, for blog.independence05.com, it should be 2 to 3 times a week. But incoglilo.blogspot.com, it can be once a week because I am not really providing information except some thoughts I have about things, and people can live without them for a week :P

It really depends on the subject. If you are running a news blog, you may need to post several times a day. If not, posting twice or 3 times a week will suffice.

9- What is the biggest blogging mistake you did?

None really, I like how things flow. Except maybe I would have chosen wordpress.com instead of blogger.com if I knew better, WP has more potential.

Not writing for several days.

10- What is the biggest mistake you see in blog designs?

Coming from a web development background, I hate blogs that have too much info and links spread everywhere all over (my blog was like that for a while, I fixed it but it’s still all over) I like order, obvious links on the side, categorized and not too much, if the blog has pages, then an obvious menu on the top or on the sides should be in order.

The overcrowded with irrelevant widgets ones. They make the visual feel so incomprehensible I can’t stay on them for 1 minute!

11- Twitter is a distraction or a good promotional tool?

Definitely a distraction. You just get hooked up. But it’s also an amazing promotional tool if done right.

I believe it’s both. I can’t deny that it made me meet new friends and I can’t deny that it increased the blog’s traffic either.

12- Do you think that any professional should have a blog?

It’s not a rule. If someone is a professional, then if they have their own business I’d say website, if they want to have daily or weekly interaction with visitors and turn them to readers, then their website should include a blog.

Yet I would recommend anyone a professional or not, to have a blog because I personally enjoy the so many different styles and ways and opinions and experiences bloggers put out there.

Because I do believe so, I’m currently working on a project with a dear friend in that sense. So if you are interested, just let me know!

13- If you could give an advice for a novice blogger, what would it be?

Long posts are annoying, but if you feel like you want to say it all then do it (I do it sometimes). Just don’t do every time, people these days don’t have time to scratch their heads so…

Other than that, choose a neat design and try to personalize the theme and layout of the blog to reflect you.

Also (unless that is the purpose of your blog) don’t let the fact that you have audience influence what you’re going to say next, by changing it or bending it, because as soon as you do, you won’t be real anymore.

Beware of the typos in your posts, choose your subjects diligently, keep pace, read and comment on other blogs.

14- What is the secret of your success, expressed in one word?

Falajtineh bi osset el one word :P … wouldn’t say I’m successful. I’m just an ordinary blogger.

But if someone out there thinks am successful, then it would probably be because of my “Honesty”

15- If you could write a post on any blog in the world, which one would you pick?

Obama… Ahmadinijad… I know Obama has a blog, but Ahmadinijad, not so sure.

In case he wants to open a new blog, I’d recommend he reads my answer to Q#13 ;)

This question sounds like an advertisement! (Big smile)

I tend to repost or put a link about interesting posts from my “Blogs I enjoy to read” list, therefore if you care to be added just buzz!
