I was invited last Thursday to a Sunset Tweetup at St.Elmo's Seaside Brasserie.

Named after the patron saint of sailors, St. Elmo's is designed by interior architect Aal Chamaa Batal and enfant terrible, Joey Ghazal, the space is slavishly decorated with the kind of carefully distressed nautical vintage stuff that Joey and his friends scavenged at back alley garage sales and flee markets.

It's caracterized by it's diverse menu, the Boston clam chowder, the Nova Scotia lobster roll, the classic fish & Chips, the rich and gooey mac-and-cheese and the soft center chocolate chip cookie...

The food was really delicious, specially with the lovely tweeps

Thank you St. Elmo's for having us, we had great time with yummy food

I’ll see you on February 30? Instead try: I’ll see you AT February 30! The highly anticipated venue opened one month ago to a thronging crowd that had been paying close attention to the social media teaser campaign executed 3 weeks in advance of the launch. A strategic leaking of tidbits about the wild world of February 30 further boosted anticipation levels, engaging the online community of Lebanon. “A fake launch date was announced first to engage public attention, and we took advantage of the fact that only once every 4 years does a leap year occur,” explained Rony Abou Saab, Managing Partner of Concepts in Motion (CIM). Rather, on March 15, 2012 to a resounding chorus of surprise, exclamation and finally, enjoyment, partygoers thronged the venue to get first dibs at experiencing the eclectic surroundings and comprehensive food and beverage menus.

The international-based menu is a “selection of extremely well received dishes. We have breakfast and brunch fare, and of course we are quite proud of the compliments that our lunch-dinner menu is getting,” said Rabih Fakhreddine of CIM. The whimsical wording of the sensational food and cocktail menus echoes the overall tone of the February 30 culture: not at all what you’d expect. The comprehensive drink selection includes a martini grouping, wine grouping and signature house cocktails perfected by an onsite mixologist and developed exclusively for CIM.

And what better way to enjoy a fine meal and good drinks? By toasting to February 30’s playlists -specifically handpicked to express the February 30 topsy turvy culture- the music runs the gamut from pop to rock to even crowd-pleasing Lebanese golden oldies. Regarding the positive reception to the unusual rotation of different music genres, Abou Saab explained that the choice to mix in Lebanon’s favorite kitsch tunes like Ziad Rahbani was “enacted by popular demand. We noticed that when a Ziad Rahbani song hit the sound system, people spontaneously jumped out of their seats and sang-along. It’s a revival of the great times in Lebanon, which is also what February 30’s retro-chic is about.”

“Guests attending the opening were privy to the first look at the shocking venue meant to transport their senses. We’ve dissected the traditional bar elements and done everything possible to go against the grain. If there is a way to really turn things upside down, you’ll find it at February 30,” continued Abou Saab, adding that Creative LAB, the architecture firm behind the third and most ambitious of CIM’s projects to date, took things to “a whole new level with February 30”. Already gathering mass media attention, CIM conceptual venues were recently featured on Future Television’s Lamasat highlighting the architecture of Creative LAB’s 3 CIM projects, including FACES and Big Shot pubs. “We look forward to a feature about February 30’s architecture scheduled to print shortly in one of Lebanon’s premier interior décor magazines,” remarked Fakhreddine.

February 30 welcomes guests daily beginning at 10am until 4am.

I came home this Sunday to find my mum had baked us delicious Cinnamon rolls, they’re really delicious, and I couldn’t not share the recipe with you.

3 ½ cups of flour

1 small tablespoon of Yeast

1 small tablespoon of Baking Powder

½ cup of sugar

3 big spoons of powder milk

1 cup of warm water

¼ cup of corn oil

1 Yellow egg

To prepare the dough, we mix all the ingredients until soft dough forms, we cover it and we wait for three hours to let the dough rise, or until doubled in size. Then we punch it down, with the baking rolling pin.

We add four spoons of soft butter, then ½ cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of ground almond, raisins, and two small spoons of cinnamon.

We put them on the dough and we roll it, then we cut it into 24 pieces and we put them in the baking pan  for 3 hours and we cover it and let it rise or until doubled in size.

We bake them in a preheated oven until lightly browned. Then we put apricot jam on the top et bon appétit!

Hamra’s newest conceptual pub, Big Shot, opened its doors Monday December 19th to the tune of a thumping crowd with party-goers staying well into the night. The highlight of the launch event showcased an airbrush mural by multi-medium Lebanese artist Hady Beydoun depicting late Rap sensations Biggie Smalls (The Notorious B.I.G.) and Tupac Shakur. Top DJ Base was on hand opening night to kick off the party, playing until 4am.

The newly launched venue is the first of its kind in Beirut: An original pub atmosphere spinning the best R & B, Rap and Hip Hop tracks of the last decade mixed with the latest and greatest hits.  “Big Shot is filling the gap in Hamra. The latest craze in Beirut revolves around R & B, Hip Hop and Rap genres. We’re giving those music lovers a place to spend their nights where they can drink, eat, dance and chill,” remarked Rabih Fakhreddine. Their new menu of pub fare is a bevy of items with a twist, following the tradition of Concepts in Motion’s (CIM) first successful nightlife venue, Faces pub, also situated in Hamra.

The décor of Big Shot, featuring the focus mural wall, sets a contemporary pace in keeping with the latest music trend. “The carefully chosen poster selection covering one wall, even the med vodka light box art is all meant to reinforce the street vibe,” continued Rabih.  Big Shot is sweeping the hard partying 20-somethings that frequent the popular Hamra Alleyway; where nightlife staple establishments like Dany’s and Oscar Wilde can be found.

The airbrush mural of Tupac and Biggie Smalls was commissioned by Big Shot management and took 14 hours to complete. About the piece, Managing Partner Rony Abou Saab said, “We chose Hady Beydoun to execute the mural of Tupac and Biggie to complete Big Shot’s look. Arguably two of the biggest Rappers in music history, their music is still played worldwide and the legend surrounding them remains a current event.”

Big Shot welcomes guests daily beginning at 6pm until 4am.

I was invited yesterday to the opening of the second branch of Eatalian in Abdelwahab street, Ahcrafieh. They opened their first branch is in Kaslik, Empire street.

Eatalian, the fashionable Italian restaurant by Casper & Gambini’s, recently moved to Napoli. Fancying the casual and friendly streets of this city where the most authentic pizzerias are located, the restaurant knew it wanted to belong there. Today with its updated look, Eatalian brings you the casual and warm Napoli, with a menu including a variety of homemade pastas, wood-oven white flour and whole wheat baked pizzas under VPN certification, delicious antipasti to share and a selection of desserts. Now with only one “Eatalian” bite, you can fly straight to one of Napoli’s streets, where the best pizzerias are located.

We had a lovely dinner on the rythm of violon and accordion...

It's a great place to have eatalian food, cozy for couples and calm for families!

You can find then on Facebook to check their latest events.
