Football fever

500px-2010_fifa_world_cup_logo_svg.png

I never thought i would write a post about the football fever in Lebanon, since i'm not a big football fan, but after witnessing it live in Sassine Square yesterday i couldn't not to.

First this is the first year i get so excited about watching the games everyday with friends and in different places, maybe because my best friend likes it and i was going with her all the time.

So we've been watching the games in Geant, Hamra and yesterday in Achrafieh and more specifically in ABC and that's thanks to Boucha2ra who gave me two tickets to watch the game in Grand Cinemas

We had really nice seats and the big screen is awesome!! as if you are in the field with the players. It was really crowded with horns, flags, cheering, popcorn... everything was perfect except that Germany wasn't playing well

When the game was over, went out of the theater everyone in the Mall was cheering for Spain, bla bla bli...bla bla blou...

And you think that's it...until you reach Sassine Square! Man the crowd, the noise, the horns, the fireworks, the Vuvuzela, the flags, there was even a drum ( طبل ), God what does it have to do with Football!!

It was really insane...i have never witnessed as much fever as yesterday, specially that all the fans who were against Germany were so happy that they lost, so the cheering was way over any other cheering!

There weren't only Spain's flags, there were Brazil, Italy and many other countries who lost before!!

Really Sassine Square had it all!!

And after all, all this cheering is for some foreign country that we have no link with.

Is it because, WE, the Lebanese don't have the deep sense of belonging to our country??

Let me know what you think...

Looks like you and I experienced the same thing this week!! I had been reading about the chaos for weeks, but only experienced it on Tuesday when Spain beat Germany. I wonder what all
of these people are going to do when the World Cup ends? Any reason to celebrate in Lebanon it seems..
