Dunno if you listen to NRJ in the evenings, but I have been taken by this new show they are having 9/11

nrj-hit-music-only-2007.jpg

9/11 is hosted by Cat Johnson & Chris Mahne, from Monday to Thursday 9 to 11 pm

What's interesting about this show is that they discuss Topics that nobody else does, topics that maybe in Lebanon people still find difficulty in speaking out loud about.

"9/11 will talk about all that the news simply missed and pushed under the carpet and eventually stepped on...You!
For two solid hours 9/11 will unleash, unedited, raw, taboo subjects; of useless yet interesting issues. Simply put the BEST mind job in town!
Now will you take the Blue pill or the Red pill?"

You can take part of the discussion by sending an sms to 1066, calling them on 04-444099 or if you don't have enough credits you can send them your name and number and they'll call you back.

And yesterday's discussion was related to World AIDS Day, the theme was "Safe sex"  and what do men and women think about it, the difference in their perceptions...

I think it's really great to have such a Live Show in Lebanon, I can see that people are really reacting and they're not afraid of calling, giving their names and sharing their experiences with the public.

You can watch them Live, Naked...Maybe

I never thought i would write a post about the football fever in Lebanon, since i'm not a big football fan, but after witnessing it live in Sassine Square yesterday i couldn't not to.

First this is the first year i get so excited about watching the games everyday with friends and in different places, maybe because my best friend likes it and i was going with her all the time.

So we've been watching the games in Geant, Hamra and yesterday in Achrafieh and more specifically in ABC and that's thanks to Boucha2ra who gave me two tickets to watch the game in Grand Cinemas

We had really nice seats and the big screen is awesome!! as if you are in the field with the players. It was really crowded with horns, flags, cheering, popcorn... everything was perfect except that Germany wasn't playing well

When the game was over, went out of the theater everyone in the Mall was cheering for Spain, bla bla bli...bla bla blou...

And you think that's it...until you reach Sassine Square! Man the crowd, the noise, the horns, the fireworks, the Vuvuzela, the flags, there was even a drum ( طبل ),  God what does it have to do with Football!!

Photo0503.jpg Photo0504

It was really insane...i have never witnessed as much fever as yesterday, specially that all the fans who were against Germany were so happy that they lost, so the cheering was way over any other cheering!

There weren't only Spain's flags, there were Brazil, Italy and many other countries who lost before!!

Really Sassine Square had it all!!

And after all, all this cheering is for some foreign country that we have no link with.

Is it because, WE, the Lebanese don't have the deep sense of belonging to our country??

Let me know what you think...

On Thursday 25 March 2010, people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together offline to rally around the important cause of Education by hosting local events to have fun and create awareness.  Twestival™ (or Twitter Festival) uses social media for social good.

Each city and school hosting a Twestival will be given the opportunity to select an area of education to support for fundraising to go towards Concern’s education programs.  This will be recognized with a special icon on their website once they have set a goal.

The Lebanese and Jordanian joint Twestival will take place at the ArabNet conference, the premiere international conference about the web industry that is being staged on that same day in Beirut. Since most of the active “tweeps” in both countries will be attending the conference, it was decided to create a joint Twestival on the first day of the conference, which happens to be on March 25th , coinciding with the Global Twestival.

Naeema ZarifMeen The Band, Lara Zankoul and Maya Zankoul have all prepared some special surprises to support Twestival Beirut Amman’s cause of helping girl’s education through donating all ticket sales to Concern International. Oh, and ArabNetMe will be giving out 3 FREE tickets to March 26th ArabNetConference Panels! Tickets will be sold at the door for 10$.

Much more surprises will follow... to keep track check the official Twestival Beirut Website

And if you are tweeting don't forget to use the Official Hashtag #TwestivalAB

A friend Blogger needs the help of all bloggers who blog in Lebanon in a project she's doing.
It's very simple you just have to answer to this small question:

Question: State your name and what got you into blogging?

You can find more info on her blog:

I went yesterday with my friends to a restaurant that opened recently in Nahr el Mot area, Republic!
Everyone was talking about it and that it's a must go!

As you can see just from arriving that it’s a typical Lebanese restaurant – café:

-          All the newest cars are parked in front of the place with valet parking of course

-          They made us wait about half an hour before providing us seats

-          Of course the Lebanese princesses with their full make up and high heels

-          Arguilé on every table, with the smoke coming towards you

What I’m trying to point out here is that going out is becoming more and more frustrating! First you have to wait a long time at the door, then to be fit you have to be as we say it in French  “tirer à quatre épingles“.

Well I don’t mind taking care of myself and wearing make-up from time to time but mannnn… there are girls whenever you see them and wherever you see them, they have their hair done, nails done, high heels on…. From where do they have all this time? Don’t they have more interesting things to do in their lives?

I think this subject has been talked about by several bloggers lately, here’s some links:

from Lilo: not so personal  link
 from Maya's amalgam link

and whenever you are out don't forget to

"Ain't No Smoking" is a local campaign organized by the Rotaract Clubs of Sahel Metn, Beirut and Beirut Metropolitan, promoting non-smoking habits and a tobacco-free environment in public places across Lebanon.

Due to the huge success of our Rotaract Non-Smoking Campaign which took place in Gemmayze on Thursday, February 19th 2009, many people and supporters asked us to reorganize a tobacco free night in Gemmayze, and try making it a weekly basis event.

Several pubs and restaurants already started to have a Non-Smoking Night once a week and we are looking forward to seeing most of the pubs doing so.

Therefore, the Rotaract Clubs of Beirut, Sahel Metn and Beirut Metropolitan will be reorganizing a similar campaign on Wednesday, October 28th 2009.

The purpose of this campaign is to:

a) Allow non-smokers to have ONE night in Gemmayze as a tobacco free environment;
b) Generate media attention on the need of having tobacco free nights in Beirut’s restaurants and pubs;
c) Stimulate decision makers on the urgency of promoting non-smoking habits and policies in Lebanon.

For those who also were very busy with the Hommos and Tabboulé contest, this week-end (23-25 October) was also the 3rd OKTOBERFEST in Zouk with the collaboration of the German Embassy.

Although it was with the collaboration of the German Embassy, there was NO GERMAN BEER!!
there were the local beers: Almaza ofcourse and Heineken!!

As German products there was Kartofel salad, Strudel, Sausages...
and the music was German too :)

But it was fun, we enjoyed the food, saw people dancing here and there, drank beer, bought some souvenirs ...

  misery club wearing Almaza t-shirts!

and went back to Barometre in Hamra  ;) where it was very crowded as usuall!!

 CHEERS!!

On Saturday October 24th, while everyone was busy with the Hommos competition, the Lebanese Astronomy Group (LAG) was in Sassine Square with two huge telescopes;

With the first one you could see the moon, and with the second you could see Jupiter and his stars.

And they gave us two stickers, each one as certificate of seeing one planet!

It was fascinating, never seen the moon so close, as if you can touch it with your own hands ;)

"Abou Elie" is a small pub located in Hamra – Karakas Street (X- Greenpeace building).
When you see it from the outside, you might think it's a mini market or small grocery store, or maybe a network......... but NO... it is a small pub, family business.
Abou Elie was in charge of the pub, until he passed away not long time ago, now his wife and son are taking over the business. But this pub is like what you never seen before; it very old, not fancy at all, it has the Che Guevara style, Che pictures everywhere hanged on the walls.

There are several things that make this pub special:
- The music, Fayrouz and Rahbani songs escorts you all night long, you can even choose the songs you want to hear.
- Their pricing are very normal, not expensive at all, and along the drinks they offer you whatever fruits they have; nuts, raisins, lupin, oranges, bananas, lemon, dates,…
- The pub even has its own 10 wills

the picture isn't clear, i'll try to have a better one next time!

The pub is always full of foreigners, who fall in love with it and come back over and over again…
